„HUNGARY REBUKED

"KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH CREDITORS"

Geneva, Jan. 27.

A severe rebuke has been admi- nistered to the Hungarian Govern- rient in a report just presented to the League Counci! by the com mittee appointed to study the fin- ancial position of Austria, Hung- ary, Bulgaria, Estonia and Greece.

"The financial committee," states the report, "thinks that a country in a situation such as Hungary which does not pay its foreign debts should keep in touch with its creditors; it is the only way in which the problems which existing circumstances frequently

forte upon debtor countries can be amicably considered and set- tled.

"The Committee would have been glad if the Hungarian Gov- ernment had not decided by a unilateral measure to stop the payment of national currenty into the service fund of its foreign public debt. The Committee does not feel that the Hungarian Gov- crnment is entitled to plead the inability of the Treasury to con- tinue payments to this fund.”

com-

A statement made last year by the same committee is repeated in this year's report. Whatever may be the errors in budget or loan policy which have been mitted," it declares, "the strain to which these countries are sub- jected is mainly due to world causes over which they have bad but little control."
