TEN PER CENT. Under a resolution which is to bo introduced in the Legislative Council, and which has already been given the full force of law under order made by the Governor. Empire tobacco, cigars and cigarettes are to be given a preferance of approximately ter per cent.

Excepting for a slight incronse in respect of cigarettes, the duties on non-Empire products remain unaltered.

Exports to have been substantial ly manufactured in and consigned from the British Empire, as de- fined above: Provided that no tobacco shall be deemed to be sub- atantially manufactured withlu the British Empire unless, in the opinion of the Superintendent of Imports and Exports, at least one quarter of its valuo is the result of labour within auch Empire..

NEW DUTIES.

The revised table of dutice, per pound weight, is as follows:

Unmanufactured Tobacco. (1) If unstripped:

(a) containing 10 pounds or more moisture per pounds weight thereof:

I. If of Empire Origin

60 cents.

II. Othor tobacco 70 cents. (b) containing less than 10 pounds of moisture per 100 pounds weight thereof:

I. If of Empire Origin

72 cents.

II. Other tobacc» 79 centa. (2) If stripped:

(n) containing 10 pounds or more of moisture per 100 pounds weight thereof:

1. If of Empire Origin

76 cents.

EMPIRE ORIGIN DEFINED For the purpose of the

ro solution, tobacco is deemed to lo of "Empire Origin" if it is proved to the satisfaction of the Superin- tendent of Imports and Exports, to have been grown and consigned from the British Empire, which for the purposes of this Table shall be deemed the United Kingdom. the Dominion of Canada, the Com- monwealth of Australia, Dominion of New Zealand, Union of Sonth Africa, the Irish Free State, Newfound- land, India including Burmnh (1) Cigars: any British Colony, any territory under His Majesty's protection, the Mandated territories of Tanganyl- ka, or Cameroons under British Mandate. or Togoland under British Mandate.
