FINE SERVICE WITH THE GOVERNMENT.

THE SPLENDID RECORD OF MR. SIRDAR KHAN

A no record of service in the Hongkong Government is the proud Achievement of Mr. Sirdar Khan, of the Harbour Office, who is shortly retiring and going back to India for a well-earned rest,

Mr. Sirdar Khan arrived in Hong. kong no a soldier in the Hong- kong Regiment as far back no 1897, but the lure of a good posi tion in the Government caused him to resign from military ser vice the following year, and he Joined the, British Post Office, in Shanghai, where he aubaequently acted as chief clerk in 1908 and in 1914.

In December 1914, Mr. Khan re- turned from Shanghai and joined the Hongkang Police Reserve. He was instrumental in forming and training the Indian Corps of the Hangkong Police Reserve, then numbering about 100 men.

of the Indian Corps, having two companies, each in command of a sub-inspector under him. On the disbandment of the Police Reserve after the war he was awarded a medal for good service.

Work During Strike. During the strike of 1925, - Mr. Khan was responsible for raising a section of Indian speelal con stables. and was given charge of a special constabulary of all - ionalities in the Eastern District. detailing men for duty nightly and himself taking a prominent part. Again in 1927 he was in- strumental in forming a company of Indians as special constabulary. and this section was soon after- wards transformed into the Hong-i kong Police Reserve, the present Indian company being the outcome of it. In recognition of his ser- vices he was promoted to the rank of A. S. P. (R) in July 1927, and given command of the Indian sec- tion, which work he has since car ried out to the satisfaction of all concerned,

Mr. Khan has been working in the Harbour Ofice since 1914, and has for several years been the chief clerk there.
