HERE was R contrast in the Belding of the two sides. A pleasant afternoon was spent tragic blunders by Owen Hughes in Whereas the Club, apart from twe on the Peak ranges on Saturday, the slips, were keeness, and accuracy when the Garrison Sergeant's Moss personified, Kowloon's work was very

MEDWAY ACHIEVE Scores:

UNEXPECTED

(By "Bully-OfP")

Hongkong Ladies' Hockey Club, thrice winners of the Caer Clark Cup and the present holders, made a brilliant debut in this years's competition on Saturday when the defented the St. Andrew's Ladies by the only scored.

'Tho game was played on the Marina ground, and when it is remem- bered that the Club are not used to playing on a sand pitch and that they have been defeated by St. An- drew's on the two previous occasions the teams have met this season, their win on Saturday in all the creditable.

more

Both teams fielded strong elevens, although the Hongkong Ladies were without the services of P. M. Pope who was taken on Friday. Her place was taken in the centre of the intermediate line by D. Robertson, who fully Justified her inclusion. She fed the forwards with innumerable good passes and kept an effective watchful eye on M. Woolley, the St. Andrew's skipper. The longkang forwards played a much better.kame than they have done in their fixtures to-date, but lifir right flank inclined to be weak. The outstanding players in the Hongkong attack were F. M. Harrop, in the centre, and M. Alun Junca, while J. Churchill made a brilliant debut for them at inside right.

SAINTS WELL MARKED.

WAK

The Saints' forwards met with a stubborn resistance from the op- pooing halves and only on very rare oceanions were able to plerce to the circle. Neither M. Woolley nor P. Gitting, who have been the chief goal- getters for the Saints in the past, had any chances at goal so closely were they marked. M. L. W. Bryson," at centre-half, played A destructive game, relieving many dangerous Mitun

tions,

After about ten minutes play in the first half, M. Alun Jones nøtted the only goal for the game with a shot which M. Rose, the Saint's custodian, had no chance of saving. Play fluctuated and M. Woolley nearly equalised · hut was robbed of the bail in the circle by Robert

saved

Before the interval the Saints' made several raids

their un

opponents citadel but could not find the net.

The second half saw both ends visited in turn, and on three occasiona things looked dangerous for loners, but R. Rose, in goal

was no further scoring well and there

The teams were: St. Andrew':-. Rose; 1. Rogera and P.

P. Woolicy; M. D. While, M. L. W. Bryson; and I. . Woolley; M. Churn, G. White, M. Woolley, P. Gittins and M. Chan.

Hongkong Ladies:-M. Dird; E. M. Gray, and J. Smalley; J. Dalziel, D. Robertson and C. Fergusson; H. Kain, M. Alun Jones, P. M. Harrop, Churchilli and E. Hlackburn,

ORDON Burnett appears to Lo finding the local wickets vastly to his liking, in addition to which he is bowling extraordinarily well this your. Nobody would take the sligh test liberty with him on Saturday, for he added to a first rate length, varied pace and flight which demand. ed careful attention. If there is a certainity for the interport I think it in Burnett.

*

DESPITE the accuracy of the Kow-

loon attack I was rather dis appointed in the visitors' baiting. The early loss of Fenree appeared to And its reaction in the subsequent batsmen, and only Hayward and Mar. tan displayed any sort of confidence and initiative.
