A group of talented artistes pro vided the entertainment, and gen erously responded to the big crowd's demand for encores. Among the artistes was Mrs. R. Ferrajolo, wife of the Italian Consul-General, who displayed a tuneful soprano in a couple of dainty vocal numbers. Madame H. Mein proved herself a very finished ballet dancer in a delightful number.
The popular pair Hugo and Jogo- phine, who have been appearing at the Peninsula Hotel recently, also added to the entertainment with several ball-room exhibitions.
After midnight, the clever Joy Fun Toy troupe of Chinese acrobats and jugglers brought along their paraphernalia and gave a couple of the entertaining turns that have medo them so popular with Hong- kong. The big crowd continued the festivity until 2 a.m.

OBITUARY
DEATH OF FORMER OLD RESIDENT OF ILK.
The death has occurred at Home of Mr. William Bell Withers, formerly an Inspector in the Newa Hongkong Police Force. of his demise was received at the week-end, death having occurred last Thursday, November 10, nt Portsmouth.
The late Mr. Withera was an old resident of many years' stand- 1. g, and there are probably quitu a number of residents in the who remember Colony to-day him. He left Hongkong in 1910 after
apoll in the Colony of no less than 29 years, having come hore in 1887. He was a keen- sportsman and freemason, being a niember of the old Corinthian Yacht Club, the Kowloon Bowling Green Club, and a Past Master of the United Servicen Lodge.
Mr. Withers married in England after he retired from the Colony, and leaves a widow to mourn him. He had been alling for the past year with bronchial and heart trouble, and for the last six months had been seriously ill, so that his end was not unexpected.
