A NEW CURRENCY

SUGGESTION FOR BARTER EXCHANGE

London, Nov. 11. An international currency is in process of evolution. It. is to be called Bartex.

The authors of the scheme are the London Chamber of Gam. merce, with the support of the Aaaociation of British Chambera of Commerce, the Federation of British Industries

and the National

Union of Manufac- turers.

Proceeding on the assumption that International finance has broken down, the premoters pro- pose to revert to simple barter, to be operated through "Bartex" clearing houses in all countries embracing the scheme.

"Bartex" will represent a fixed quantity of commodities and will therefore be automatically expan- dable with the expansion of trade. It will also constitute a correc- tive to excessive adverse trade balances.

of

The Government la boing ap- proached with the suggestion that it establish clearing houses in Britain, and representatives forcin banks and Governments are being invited to a conference which will be held in the near fu Lure.

It is claimed that frozen credits can immediately be liquidated by their

conversion into a corres- ponding amount of Bartex, which the Government concerned would guarantee to pay by the export of Foods over a period of a decade.-- Our Own Correspondent,

$112.

Members of the Club enjoyed a steak and kidney pudding dinner and sing-song.

Aug-

Football Rame. The fund was further mented by the charity football game at Happy Valley and the raming of the ball used. H.E. the Officer Administering the Govern- ment, Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn, was present and bought a book of tickets, one of which was the win- ning number for the ball.

The raffle netted approximately $100.
