HOOVER'S FAILURE

NEW YORK, NOV. 8 PENDING THE RESULTS FROM THE MIDDLE WEST AND WEST, IT IS TOO EARLY TO SAY THAT MR. FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT, THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE, AS BEEN ELECTED AS THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, BUT IT WILL BE NOTHING SHORT OF A MIRACLE IF PRESIDENT HOOVER SURVIVES.

New York, with forty-seven electoral college votes, has already gone over to the Democrats. Mr. Roose- velt now has a strong lead in twenty-five States, com- manding 284 electoral college votes, which would be quite sufficient for election.

President Hoover is leading in only seven States, which carry 88 electoral college votes.
