SALE OF OPIUM IN HONGKONG
LOCAL LAW BEING AMANDED
The draft has been issued of an Ordinance to amend the Opium Ordinance of 1932.
It is explained that in Article I of the Oplum Agreement signed at Bangkok on the 27th of No- bomber, 1931, It was provided that the retail anlo and distribu- tion of opium should take place only from Government ghops or, whore local circumstances make the establishment of Government shops difficult; from shops managed under Government super- vision, by persone appointed, by the Government for that purpose and remunerated by a fixed pay- ment and not by a commission on sales,
This Ordinance accordingly adds A proviso to section 10 of the principal Ordinance making it clear that the power to appoint auftable persons to sell prepared oplum In to be exercised only where local circumstances make the establishment of Government oplum shops difcult,
