Salutary punishment for unlaw- ful possession of opium and re-i sisting arreat by a revenue of- ficer was meted out to Leung Hoi- sing, police constable, by Mr. Wynne Jones at the Central Magistracy yesterday. In the course of the resistance, the re-i venue officer fired his revolver, and

The case, which has taken sev- eral days to complete, was brought to a close by the evidence of the accused, who pleaded that hel found the opium on a boat and was taking it to the police station when apprehended.
On the first charge of unlaw. ful possession of opium, accused was sentenced to one year's im-i prisonment, and in addition a fine of $1,000, in default six months' imprisonment.
On the second charge of resist ing arrest, he was fined $500, in default three months' imprison-i ment. All the prison sentences were made concurrent.
