INTRODUCED

Implementation of Hongkong's contribution to the Imperiat Pre- forence scheme was carried over Its first stage In the Legislativa Council yesterday, when the necessary legislation passed Its first reading.

The Attorney General moved the frat reading of "A Bill to secure and increase tride between the Colony and other parts of the Bri- tish Empire" and said: "This la the result of the agreements of the Ottawa Conference and it is pronnsed to charge a duty equal to 20 per cent. of the cl.f. value of ears in the Colony, not on arrival but on registration, so aṣ not to interfere with the normal trade of the Colony. From the net value there is deducted the cost of tyres and also spare wheels and other apare parts.
