JUPLANDIA INAUGURATES
PACIFIC-ORIENTAL RUN.
A large number of prominent ship pers and local merchants attended a recoption held on board the motor vessel Jutlandia botween 2 and 6 p.m. yesterday afternoon on the occasion of the inauguration by the East Asia. tic Company and the Chinese Ame rleen Shipping Company of their Pacific Oriental Service.
The ship, which has been be-flagged since its arrival in Hongkong o Tuesday, prosented a spic and span appearance as the interested visitors were escorted over her. Surprising. ly luxurious for a cargo vessel in the passenger accommodation aboard, and the cabins, each with private bath. room and sitting room, were respon- sible for much favourable comment.
The Jutlandia is a twin scrow ateamer of 6,500 tons gross, and is propelled by twin Deisel engines. The ship differs from other vessels innamych as it is without a funnel, the exhaust from the engines being carried antern through thin exhaust pipes. The molera conveniences for quick landing and unloading of cargo include electric winches, their almost cerio silonce being another feature of this ship. During the afternoon a practical demonstration of cargo handling was arranged for the guests aboard the ship.
The Jutlandla leaves Hongkong to- day on the maiden voyage across the Pacific to San Francisco. Ports of
