CINEMA SCREENINGS.

NOTES SUPPLIED BY THE THEATRES

The selection of Fredric March for the leading male role in Paramount's "Merrily We Go to Hell, which is a picture dramatization of Clea Lucas' startling novel of a year ago, is not A casual choles of the casting office, report studilo officials. The.dramatic stature of March has increased materially in the "Birangers in Love" and "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," In theso pictures he reached the heights of dramatic artistry, To-day March stands almost alone in his capacity for an unusually great range of dra matic roles.. It s this wide ver satility that led Paramount officials to nesign him his present difficult role

March's success on the screen' fa the result of training, hard work, and an inherent dramatic talent, which with the years has come to full flower. He started life as a banker, but figures and finance proved uninterest- ing.

For six years March has practically devoted himself to the screen. Ha has played many roles in pictures and early attracted the attention of fans. His dual role of Jekyll and Hyde is a class portrayal of a dramatic max- terpiece. In "Merrily We Go To Hell, which is showing at tho King's Theatre to-day, March for the first time co-stars with Sylvin Sidney, "Hell Divers" of Epic Quality. The thrills of naval aviation unroll themselves in a sensational panorama, as a background for poignant rom- ance, and a drama of heroism and sacrifice that has something of an epic quality to it, in "Hell Divers," coming shortly to the Queen's Theatre, with Wallace Beery and Clark Gable in the starring roles. Thrilla pile. upon thrills, and all of them genuine thrills, filmed during the actual manoeuvres of ships and planes at Panamu. One sees the whele navy in action; Bring deafening salvos at a "sham battle" cnomy; sending planes aloft from a giant air- craft carrier to locate and attack a grent Zeppelin. One sees the "Hell Divers," sensational combat planes, hurt themselves downward, two miles In less than half a minute, at their targets. Filmed with the co-operation of the navy, this picture gives a new idea of the navy in the air. Like a silver thrend, through the spectacles and excitement, runs a story of love, herelem find sacrifice. There is the love of the grizzled veteran, played by BeZery, and the Panama dive- keeper played by Marjorie Rambeau, that actually has something herole in it. There the sacrifice, and the struggle between the ideals of the old and the new navy-in itself a mighty element of dramas.

Many famous navy aviators appear, in addition to a huge and powerful east. Beery, Gable and Conrad Nagel play the principal male roles splendid- iy: lias Rambeau, Dorothy Jordan and Marie Prevest score in the chief feminine parts,

"Million Dollar Leza." During the filming of "Million Dollar Legs," Paramount's Olympic Games farce which coMCH to tho King's Theatre on Wednesday next, W. C. Fields, who is featured with Jack Oakle, Ben Turpin and Hank Mann, told the story of his dificult apprenticeship in the art of juggling. Although a mere boy-he was fifteen at the time of his first professional engagement-he ereated all his own juggling tricks and made his own apparatus.

Even after he had attained inter- national success, Fields, always used only the simplest urticles in juggling. Kitchen utensils, tennis balls, light globes from the footlights and prae.
