WEAK GOAL-KEEPING CAUSES KOWLOON DEFEAT

FLATTERING WIN FOR

SOUTH CHINA

ROYAL ARTILLERY COLLAPSE

AGAINST BORDERERS

MISERABLE POLICE DISPLAY

(By Veritas")

ERRCRS on the part of Gurevitch, the Kowloon Club goalkeeper was the chief instrument in the defeat of the Peninsula team by South China in the opening of the football league on Saturday. The Chinese should never have won by such a pronounced margin, Gurevitch being responsible for three fatal mistakes.

The Royal Artillery were completed submerged beneath the determined and well directed Borderers attack and were finally outplayed, whilst the Police, from the territorial viewpoint, had the match in their pockets against St. Joseph's, but finished so badly, that they eventually lost.

The weakened Recreio side had a rough passage against the Chinese Athletic finishing six goals on the debit side.

CRICKET: SEASON

VOLUNTEERS WIN AGAINST K.C.C.

FULL WEEK-END RESULTS

Local cricket made A start- on Saturday, when several friendly games were played and the Kowloon Cricket Club and the Volunteers met in the an nual two-days match.

The Volunteers, thanks, largely to a sporting declaration on the part of homesters foreed a credit- able win.

The Indians displayed promis- ing form against the Navy to win comfortably, but among the junior games, the Navy took ample re- Ivenge by defenting last year'e

champions.

After being 10 down on the first innings in a week-end match against the Kowloon Cricket Club, the Volun teers pulled together splendidly and won by five wickets and eight runs.

COLONY'S TITLES DECIDED

[

A brilliant swim by Miss Sau-king, the young Chinese girl, in the ladies 100 yards championships, when she set new record and beat a previous holder, Miss Ena Allen, and the masterly effort of Roza Pereira in carrying off the 440 yards title formed the features of Saturday's events in the Hongkong Swim- ming Championships at the V.R.C.

The 440 yards proved to be one and the R.A.S.C. the winners of the most thrilling events were held in check until late in the day, with Lawrence. and
