· GERMAN SUBJECT TO BE EXTRADITED

WANTED IN JAVA FOR" AN.

ALLEGED THEFT

The case of David Diedrich Dolise, a German subject, who is wanted by the authorities of the Dutch East Indies on a charge of Inrceny of over 2,250 gullders' worth of diamonds from J. Green, an Amsterdam diamond dealer, was again before Mr. Schofield at the Central Magistracy, yesterday afternoon, and the extradition of the man was proceeded with.

Appearing for the Crown, Mr. T. M. Hazlerigg-said:

The fugitive was a jeweller who had a shop at Sockaboemi in Java, and the complainant, named J. Groen, was a dealer in jewellery. On the 17th July of last year, the complainant, as I will call him, had a conversation with the fugi- tive as a result of which he took on the following day, the 18th July, certain jewellery to the Fugitive's house. Ile there made a cash sale of certain jewellery for 500 guilders, which does not real- ly eoneern this present charge. At the same time he handed over to the fugitive fewellery to the value of 2,252 guilders, and that in the jewellery which is the sub- ject matter of the charge which your Worship has now hero.

The jewellery in question to the .extent of 2,252 guilders, was hand- ed over to the fugitive for sale on commission. The terms arranged were that after the jewellery was sold the fugitive was either to pay all the money to the factory agent at Soekaboemi or to send it to Groen by postal order. A

transaction, days after the

depositions, the cording to the complainant met the fugitive. He saw him at his shop, and the fugi- tive represented that certain of the jewellery had been sold, and that he would arrange payment for it. That payment was never made.

Some time later, it will be shown by the evidence that it was a month afterwards, the complain- aut Groen, found the fugitive's shop at Sockaboeni had been that closed. The position WAS the fugitive had left Suckaboemi and left his shop. Ho left his shop without making arrange- Inents for the conduct of his affairs, and it transpires also that he left Java altogether, at no time before he left Snekaboemi did the fugitive pay any of the money that he should have paid on account of that jewellery.

The complainant made his first statement on the 26th of August, 1931. That was his sworn state- ment, eleven months before the arrest of the fugitive in Hong- kung. The nature of the trans- action seems to have been quite

jewellery clear, that this handed over to the fugitive for a specific purpose, that is to sell it (Continued m-Page 9.1
