AMAZING SCENES AT WASHINGTON
BONUS ARMY OF HUNGER MARCHERS GROWING DAILY
POLICE CHIEF'S THREAT
Washington, June 8. Fresh recruits for the "Bonus Army" are pouring in- to Washington in thousands, creating a series of delicate problems for the authorities. The situation, mencing as it is, has not yet developed seriously, but disturbances are to be feared.
It is estimated that at least ten thousand "hunger marchers" are now encamped on the banks of the Potomac, announcing their determination to remain until the President has consented to redeem the Bonus Certificates, which would involve the Treasury in the payment of over G$2,000,000,000.
The leaders of the Army have predicted that their numbers will shortly have increased to fifty thousand and have grimly announced that the Government will not be able to starve them into surrender.
A cold snap, after a spell of blazing beat, is ailing to the trial of those who are stili engaged #n the march to Washington. They are coming in from all ends of the country, sleeping in open hields where necessary.

President Gives Way on Main Point
Washington, June 8.
It is understood that Pre- sident Hoover has approved of the inclusion of the re-sub- mission of the Prohibition issue to the people as a plank in the Republican platform for the Presidential elections.
The President's decision is be-] lieved to follow the dramatic action of Mr. John D. Rockefeller, Jun, hitherto a "Bone Dry" in publicly
his admitting that, fr opinion, Prohibition had failed, and urging the early repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment.
