A sensational offshoot of the Lindbergh kidnapping case, Gaston B. Means, de- cribed as a friend of the late President Harding, was ar- rested in Washington to-day on a charge of obtaining money by false pretences.
Means is accused of securing the payment of G$100,000 from the wife of the publisher of the Washington Post. JL leading American newspaper, by repre- senting that he was in a position to recover the Lindbergh baby,
EX-SECRET SERVICE MAN.
The accused was formerly in the American Secret Service, being very prominent in connexion with the Teapot Dome Oil Scandal.
He has been in the limelight at intervala since 1917 when he was involved in a charge of murder made in connexion with the death of a wealthy woman whose estate he had in part managed.
During the investigation he also. became involved in an investigu- tion of an alleged German spy plot.
STARTLINGLY FRANK.
His testimony in regard to both those things was startlingly frank as it has been in every other case in which he has been involved.
