MENINGITIS OUTBREAK STILL ALARMING.

Macao, Mar. 31. The outbreak of corebro-spinal meningitis which made itself felt nt the end of last month continues to be the subject of considerable anxiety on the part of the authori- tien. Under the careful direction of Major Peregrino da Costa, the Government continues to maintain the situation, a strict outlook on and sanitary measures to combat the spread of the disease are kept up with unabated energy.

Ono factor which mitigates againat effective control of the disease within the colony is the continual entry of persons afflicted with meningitis into Macao from villages in adjoining Chinese día tricts. This is explained by the fact that the Chinese residents of Macao are finding that cases treat- od by the Portuguese doctors tend to a rapid recovery, which is testi- fied to by the number of Chinese taken voluntarily to the ment Isolation Hospital at Macao.

With the object of preventing further entry of such cases Into the colony, the Portuguese authori ties are building a temporary ahed where cases from Chinese territory will be isolated and treated by the Portuguese doctors.

We now have in the belt conveyer and economien! the most efficient device for this purpose. In simplicity all other typos of this ranks above mechanical conveyors and to are added such advantages as low power consumption, low maintenance charges and high efficiency.

The fact that the vast majority of the cases are Chinese goes to show that the conditions of life of most of those afflicted with the disease must be radically changed before any great headway against the disease can be effective.
