Presiding at the annual general meeting of the Hongkong Fire In surance Co., Ltd., today, the Hon. business is still must difficult, and it is at the moment impossible to visualise any improvement,

The outturn of the year 1930 has proved satisfactory, the Ac count having run-off with a credit Ixalance of $616,420.34: this figure comparea very favourably with all proceeding youra, except 1920-28 when results were of a nature that we can hardly hope to emulate in
these difficult times,
Premium Income, though down by close on half a million dollars, produced a profit of 8.51 as con- pared with 2.786 In 1929. This heavy full in income is almost en- tirely due to the riso in the rate of exchange from 1/1, ruling on the 31st December 1930, to 1/5 on the 31st December last. The ratio of Loeses worked out at 49.82% as ngainst 59.1655 for the year 1929; while that for expenses rose to 41.57%, from the Ögur. of 38.06", in the proceeding year.

The balance at ereilt Working Account for 1931, after twelve months working, is $524,, 205.67 us compared with $769,996.- 61 for 1910, at, the Pane stage, a decrease of $246.700,94; this is due to three causes, rise in exchange, reduced Income and to the heavier losses that secured during last year. It is early yet to formulate any idea as to the final outturn of this Account, but everything points to the fact that JU VRU b hut moderate.

DISCOUNTED THEORIES. It is thought that had Troi heen' aware of the existence, of the bomb he
would
not have chosen such a place and time to have exposed it in public. It is also considered unlikely that Taoi was the target of a bomb thrown at him by another man.
The theory given most credence is that Tani was engaged in clean- ing up the Cathedral and came across the tin beneath the shrubbery. have been smoking, and this may have caused the explosion, or he may have attempted to open the tie and in doing so caused the de- tonation.
