INTER-UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS.
HONGKONG REPRESENTA- TIVES GOING TO CANTON.
A happy function took place at the H.K. University pavilion at Pokfulam yesterday afternoon when the Uni versity Unkn gavo a tes party in honour of the athletes who Ieft for Canton this morning to partici pate in the Inter-University Athletic Most, which will be hold at the Lingnan University on March 20 and 28..
Mr. N. K. Law, Chairman of the University Union, prosided, among those present being Bir William Hornell, G.LE., Vice-Chancellor, and Mr. W. B. Finalgan, Registrar.
Speaking on behalf of the Union, Mr. Law tendered his best wishes to the athletes and expressed his whole- hearted support. He was sure that they would do themselves Justico in Canton, where they would be inceting the Lingnan University and the Sun Yat Sen University athletes.
Mr. K. P. Gan, the Captain of thr team, thanked the Union for the in- terest it. And taken in them and for the party, which all the athlotes appreciated very much. Ho could not guarantee that the team would bring back the flag, which they had won the previous year with so much effort, but he could guarantee that they would, to the best of their ability, defend the honour and good name of the Hongkong University and the Union. If they could not bring back the fing, it would not be for want of trying.
With regard to the lady under- grachantes, he had one advice to give, and that was to give the words "I eun't" a holiday. Ho felt sure that they would do their best in Canton.
The speaker reminded the athleter, that a contest was not won by any one inan. When they reached' Can- tun, they would have to H เกม A united front, and it was the team spirit which counted mast.
Sir William Hornell also spoke, wishing the leam' the best of luck. He aunounced he would be going up to Canton with them und would be present at the meet. He could not imagine how they could be boaton, but if they were, he would ask them to take it like good sportsmen. "The best wide always wins," he concluded.
The function ended with the gather- ing singing the Union Song.

HONDA & AKIYAMA SCRATCH TO CHINESE.
He Ka-lau and Yew Man-kit, the interport combination, received A walk-over from Akiyania and flenda, the Japanese first string in, the open doubles championship yesterday, Akiyama having departed from the Coliny. This places the ChinesU Recreation Club pair in the quarter finals.
Lee Wai-tong and Luk Ding- chrong, one of the must brilliant of the younger pairs in the tournament, accomplished another excellent per- formance in disposing of Remedios and Ribeiro, the leading Portuguese representatives, in straight sets, and this qualify meet Ho Ku-lau und Yew Man-kit, their comjatriots.
This promises to be one of the most interesting and exciting azi- counters in the quarter finals, with the issue very doubtful to anticipate with any certainty.
Barros and Remedion, another Club de Recreio pair advanced to the fourth round at the expense of Silva and Sousa, winning with ease at 6-3, 6-3.
