A NEW BABY.

Speed, Price, Economy Illustrated.

The many notable achievements of British "nby" cars this year have been crowned by a pheno menal dual performance. Recently a tiny 8 h.p. car covered a mile on the racing track at a speed of over 100 miles an hour. The same car has covered more than 100 miles on a single gallon of fuel. And it is In essentials Identical with the car that is on sale to the publie ut £100.

n

As an illustration of what "baby" can do. these two texta could hardly be more striking. For the first, a chaasia was taken from Atock-it is a quantity- produced machine-and fitted with a streamlined single-aenter body, while a supercharger was added to the engine. In that trim it reach- ed a speed of 101.96 iniles an hour for the mile with a flying sturl.

Then the same car, with the same body, but minus the supercharger, was submitted to the R.A.C. for a fuc! consumption test. Their report. just issued, shows that

two tests were made, one on a circular in the lap. the track 666 yards other on a road circuit ten miles round, between Rirmingham and Coventry. On the track the car, filler with exactly one

gallon, went on until it had covered 1.97 miles. On the road, coating where the gradient helped, it covered on the same quantity 107.4 milen. An average speed of 15% maintained. miles per hour was The fitel ased was benzole.

The ordinary owner of a "baby" is pleased if he gets 50 or 56 miles to the gallon. But then he does not restrain his pace in 15 mils per hour.

WHAT IS IT? SNAPPY CAR EXCITES INTEREST LOCALLY

The car shown in the picture above, has excited considerable interest and admiration in Hongkong. The lines are extremely snappy, and the general finish excellent. It is one of the latest Morris Isis models, known as the "Sports Coupe." During the week onveral demonstrations has been given by the local agents, Messrs. Dodwell & Co. Ltd. n report of which is unavoidably held over until next Saturday.

The little van climbed the passes marvellously, and, as you are aware, there are several very stiff gradients in the district. The ascent up to Raz- mak Narai with an altitude of 7.188 ft., was done with ease, and at no time did the engine show any signs of overheating. The all consump- tion during the whole trip WAN negligible, and the van averaged 45 m.p.g. This la exceptionally good, considering that the van was climb Ing some
