MOTOR MISTAKES

·OF LADIES.

Drive you hover so wlaoty or so well, some day you will find your- self confronted by large man in dark blue who will want to know why: (a) The right light is out? (b) The car has boon left for an hour unattended? or (c) The licenco puper la not of the latest and most fashionable shado,

Misguided indeed is the woman who imagines that her feminino charms, however radiant, will in- duce a policomar to "wink the other eye." The beat ahe can hope for is that if he is a vory fair-minded policeman the fact that she is a woman will not be used in evidence against her, writen "H. 1" in a jovial style to a British paper, published in the interests of motoring.

Statistics prove that women are neither better nor worno

drivers than men, but if a woman is in-- volved in any accident people still sny: "A woman? Oh, of course, sho Jost her head1" While a man 18 given the benefit of the doubt, sho will have to fight against an absurd and utterly underserved pre- judice.

Policemen are not exempt from this unfair attitude towards women motorists, and my experience is that the younger the policeman the more atidicul" he is to deal with. Once, under Vauxhall Bridge, I got into a very bad traffic-block. It was unbearably hot and I expect I dozed a. Suddenly, a pandemonium of looting electrified me to action. I tried to get quickly off the mark, only to find my engine had stopped. Lobster-Hued Very Young Policeman.

At this moment a lobster-hued, very young policeman upproached my wirulow.

The congestion was the result of

a mistake of his, and his manner

was insuferable.

"Your rudeness upset me, or this would never have happened," 1 said significantly. That was the last I heard of him.

As a rule the police are wonder- fully polite and helpful. Ono shall always remember with bless- ings, for it midnight ho found me stranded and lightless and mended a short-circuit for me.

A friend of mine once failed to interpret a young policeman's weird passes in the air. She apologised. "That's all right, Mina," he said, "but you should keep your eye on niel"
