SCHEME.

A question with regard to the £25,000,000 Severn Barrage heme for utilising the river for the generation of electricity is to be asked in the House of Commons by Mr. Louis South on Wednesday, when the technical vireles interest- ed home of a final pronouncement ferom the Minister of Transport.
The scheme. It was hoped, would form an integral part of the Cen- tral Electricity Board's "grid" fav the distribution of current, but in the Board's plans for the South- West of England no provision hos as yet been made for its inclusion.
Investigations and research work- in connexion with the Severn Bar- rage scheme have been in progress for ten years and sanè £60,000 ban been spent. The scheme, it is stated, is perfectly practicable, but the cost may well prove a serious obstacie.
The Barage, it was proposed. should be built near the Severn railway tunnel, where there are reck foundations, and whore the rise and fall of the tide is fru ¡quently, from 30 to 10 feet. The sheet of water enclosed, it was 'sug- gested, might he used as a huge harbour.

As a result of threatening, let- tera, signed "Communist," haring been received by prominent men. the financial centre of New York has been placed under the heaviest guard that has ever been assigned to such a duty.
The letters were received by Mr. J. Pierpont Morgan, Mr. Harvey D. Gibson, chairman of the Emer gency Unemployment Relief Com- mission, officials of the New York Stock Exchange and the Bankers | Trust Company.
Tear gas and riot gun squnda are stationed at all vaninge potuta, į and the police force has been doubled.
Private ears, driving slowly up and down Broad-street, conecal more police; 20 detectiven nre patrolling the J. P. Morgan offices and a special force is watching the Stock Exchange.
The letters have been forwarded to the Department of Justice at Washington, who asked themselves that special precautions should be takon remembering the explosion nt the J. P. Morgan offices in 1920, when 34 were killed and 100 in- jured.
