China's art and civilisation rank with the oldest in the world. The Egyptians and Sumerians reached A higher standard earlier than the Chinese but they passed away, while the Chinese still survive. and their output of beautiful: things continued through the een-- turies. At present their art is still suffering from the decadence which began to set in at the end (A.D. of Chien Laing's reign 1736-1706), but, given peace, renaissance might easily come about.
