ཏྠཡམ་་་་་་་་
THE DIFFERENCE in outlook of the Conservative and Liberals Parties was emphasised last night . when Sir Herbert Samuel and Mr. Stanley Baldwin issued their appeals to the country on behalf of the National Government, following up the Prime Minister's *manifesto.
Mr. Baldwin more or less pledges himself to press for tariffs, though he states that he preserves an open... mind on the measures necessary to meet the present emergency. Sir Herbert says the Government must undertake an inquiry into the question of the adverse balance of trade and there must be a genuine decision to follow the argument wherever it leads. The Liberals will not, however, consent to food taxes.
