GOVERNOR'S SPEECH IN COUNCIL.
TRIBUTE TO POLICE.
His Excellency, the Governor, at yesterday's meeting of the Legis- lative Council, on behalf of him- self and the Government; express- ed their most intense horror at the disgraceful nets which were com mitted and the tragedies which occurred during the anti-Japanese riots.

E. the Governor said: Before proceeding with the busi- neas of the day I wish to make re- ference to the deplorable events which occurrod towards the end of last week and, on behalf of myself and the Government, to express our most intense horror at the disgrace- fal acts which werg committed, And

Colony's Name Besmirched,
