The death is announced of Sir William Orpen, the noted artist.

Born at Stillorgan, Co. Dubiln, in Nov., 1878, the late Sir William Dublin Orpen studied at the School of Arl but left it for the Slade School where his facility na a draughtsman and painter was at once recognised. He seemed to escape the student

stage al- together and appear as a master, for even his early pletures took. rank with those of established painters. Orpen showed great variety of aim and flexibility of means. He first exhibited at the New English Art Club of whfel he became a member in 1900.
