PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY'S NEW UNDERTAKING.

Following on Its success lust winter with "Yeoman of the Guard," the Hongkong Philhar- monic Society has chosen the equally popular "Miss Hook of

Holland," with its charming contumes and delightful music for its opera in the forthcoming season. Arrangements are going stendily forward under, the direc tion of the President, Mr. W. E. L. Shenton, in collaboration with a representative committee, and it is intended to begin rehearsals enrly in September.

The Hongkong Philharmonic Society has always been favoured In securing the voluntary services of highly qualified producers and musical directors, and for this season it is no leas fortunate in

having for its musical dire Mr. J. 1.. Geeks, A.R.C.M., by permission of Et; Col, R. F. Gross, 1.8.0. Commanding 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers, and Mr. W. Robertson for its producer,

Both have already charmed Hongkong audiences; Mr. Gicks by conducting delightful band concerts, while the several plays which have been produced by Mr. Robertson
