LECTURE ON AIMS OF EDUCATION.
INTERESTING TALK AT THE
CHINESE Y.M.C.A.
An instructive lecture on the "Alma of Education" was delivered by Mr. G. Sins, B.A., at the Chin- ese Y.M.C.A., Bridges Street, yes- terday evening.
After giving a brief review of western education, the lecturer dwelt on the influence of home life on the mind of a child. He said schools were not the only places in which a child could be taught, The home played a great part in the transformation of the young mind. The
atmosphere of the home and various other points, suggest them selves to a child's mind, which, nt its most impressionable stage. should be taught properly.
The lecturer went on to say that universities and public schools were not merely places wherein young men and children were taught the school curriculum, but by bringing them together and allowing them to influence one another, education was brought a step further.

Modern society bud become so in- tellectual, that every one must have passing knowledge almost all toples. If one would be a success socially, one must prepare oneself for eventualities.
In China, the speaker had noticed that some boys paid Bttle, if any attention to ganies. They seemed to think that it was so much wasted time. They spent too much time on studying, but they did not realise that although they spent much time on studying they did not get the corresponding value..
