"A Lady's Morals," Singing for the microphone quires less physicnt, but mental effort, than singing to an audience from a stage, it was dis- covered by Grace Moore, Metropolitan opera ata, when she started "A Lady's Morals," her first starring pic- ture, based on the life of Jenny Lind, at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. The new picture is showing at the Queen's Theatre.
"The microphone," she said; "needs very much less volume, but, because of its nensitiveness infinitely more careful enunication, inflections, breath- ing, and far more careful phrasing." Miss Moore plays the role of Jenny Lind, the Swedish opera singer, in the now picture, which deals with the singer's career, her great love affair and her famous debut in New York. under the auspices of P. T. Barnum.
Sidney Franklin directed the pro- duction with a notable cast, including Reginald Denny as the composer- lover Brandt, Wallace Beory in the role ef Barnum, Jobyna Howland as the companion, Gus Shy, Gilbert Emery, George Marion, Giovanni Martino, Paul Porcasi, Jann Standing, Mavis Villers and Bodil Rosing.
Miss Moore, as Jenny Lind, sings a wide variety of songs, including the "Norma, An "Casta Diva" from arla from "Daughter of the Regi ment," "Oh Why," by Herbert Stothart, "It Is Destiny," "Barcarolle" and an Italian song by Oscar Straus, the Viennese light-opera composer. She also sings "Lovely Hour," first song composed by Carrie Jacobs Bond for the screen.
