THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH, SATURDAY, APRIL 25, 1931.
YESTERDAY'S TENNIS SEMI-FINAL.
C.-A; L. RUMJAHN OVERCOMES
HIS BROTHER.
Consistency rather than anything? for approaching brilliance won C. A. L. Rumjahn the right, to con test the final of the Open Champion-| ship Singles, in which he has to meet elther M. W. Lo or E. C. Fincher, the latter of whom, after his meritorious victory over Honda, fa generally regarded as the other contender for the title.
For the second time in two yeara the two Rumjahn brothers, C. A. L. and S. A.; have met in the Open Singles Championship and while the elder of the two won In straight sets in the previous tourna- ment, C. A. L. avenged his defeat on the stand court yesterday by ell- minating his brother in the semi-
final before large attendance, which included His Excellency the Governor (Sir William Peel).'
So completely the master was C. A. L. Rumjahn. that he had little dimeulty in winning in straight acts. The former Tientsin player displayed an all-around su- periority in his stroke production and from start to finish he was ob viously the stronger of the two. although there were occasions dur- in the third set when it looked as if the loser would take the match to at least four sets.
With very forceful driving and unenany placements, C. A. L. Rum- inhn invariably had his brother on the run and often had him com- pletely out-manoeuvred. He showed weakness in his overhead work, hut, with S. A. Rumjahn playing far below his form, the winner was not eadled upon to go all out to win. But for temporary spasms he was outstandingly superior and fully deserved his victory.
S. A. Ruminha, possibly haunted by defeats in the Indian R. C. tournaments, ie which he has been beaten by his brother, was not showing anything of the brilliance
