THE WORLD'S West Britain, temporarily, at least,
the veteran American motor-boat racer, Commodore Gar Wood, guiding his queer-looking Miss America IX through the waters of Indian Creek, Miami, Florida, at the remarkable speed of 102.155 miles an hour.
Commodore Gar Wood was attacking successfully the record made at Windermere last June by Miss Eng- land II, with her twin Rolls-Royce aero engines, of 98.7 miles an hour, before the accident which sank her and cost the life of Sir Henry Segrave.
Britain's attempt to recover the record will be made next week in Miss England I, which is to make the attempt in the hands of Mr. Kaye Don, the famous racing motorist, at Buenos Aires. Mr. Kaye Don is confident of success. In a seced trial on Lough Neagh in January, Miss England I did 107 miles an hour, and her reconstructors are confident of her ability to do 110 miles an hour.
