mencionados objetos que no sea enteramente voluntaria, asi como todo acto de violencia ó engaño que para extraer súbditos Chinos pudiera practicarse en Macao Asi mismo se comprometen las Altas Partes Con- ú en los puertos de China, tratantes á castigar severamente, con arreglo á sus leyes, á sus respectivos ciudadanos ó súbditos que infringiesen las presentes estipulaciones, y ademas á proceder judicialmente contra sus respectivos buques que se dedicasen á esas operaciones ilegales, imponiéndoles las multas que para tales casos se hallan establecidas en sus loyes.
VII.
Para la mas fácil inteligencia y eficaz proteccion de los súbditos Chinos residentes en el Perú, el Gobierno Peruano se compromete á nombrar Intérpretes oficiales del idioma Chino en las Prefecturas de los Departamentos del Perú donde existen los grandes centros de Lumigracion China.
VIII.
Los buques mercantes pertenecientes á cindadanos Peruanospodran frecuen- far todos los puertos de la China abiertos al comercio extrangero, é ir libremente de unos á otros conduciendo sus cargamentos; y gozaran de los mismos derechos y privilegios que los de la Nacion mas favorecida.
De igual modo, los buques mercantes pertenecientes á súbditos Chinos podran visitar todos los puertos del Perú abiertos al comercio extrangero, y negociar en ellos, gozando de los mismos derechos y privilegios que se conceden en el Perú ú los ciudadanos ó sábditos de la Nacion mas favorecida.
IX.
Los ciudadanos Peruanos pagaran por todas las mercaderias que exporten á importen en los puertos abiertos de la China los derechos que estan actualmente en vigor para reglamentar el comercio extrangero; pero en ningun caso se les exigirá otros ó mas altos derechos que los que abora se pagan ó se pagaren en lo futuro por
los ciudadanos ó súbditos de la Nacion mas favorecida. No se impondrá en los puertos del Perú sobre todas las mercadorias expor- los que tadas & importadas por los súbditos Chinos, otros ó mas altos derechos gravan 6 puedan gravar en el Perú al comercio de la Nacion mas favorecida.

que
Los buques de guerra de cada uno de los dos paisos respectivamente tendran libertad para visitar todos los puertos dentro del territorio del otro, á los cuales es permitida á se permita en adelanto la entrada de los buques de guerra de las otras Naciones. Becibiran todo género de facilidades, y no se les pondrá obstáculo para la compra de provisiones, carbon, proveerse de aguada ó hacer las reparaciones uccesarias. Tales buques no estarau sujetos al pago de derechos de ninguna clase.
XI.
Todo buque Peruano que por causas extraordinarias se viese obligado á buscar un lugar de refugio, podrá entrar á cualquiera de los puertos de la China, sin estar sujeto á pago de derechos de tonelago ó por las mercaderias, si estas solo se desembarcan para hacer en el buque las reparaciones necesarias y permaneceN bajo la vigilancia del Superintendente de la Aduana.
Pero si alguno de tales buques encalluse ó naufragase, las Autoridades Chinas tonaran inmediatamente las medidas del caso para socorrer á la tripulacion y resguardar el buque y cargumento. La tripulacion será tratada amigablemente,
y si fuesc preciso se le prestará los medios de trasportarse al Consulado mas próximo. En caso que un buque Chino naufragase ó se viese obligado por efecto de mal tiempo á buscar un sitio de refugio en las costas del Perú, las autoridades

The Contracting Parties likewise pledge themselves to punish severely, according to their laws their respective citizens and subjects who may violate the present Stipulations, and also to proceed judicially against their respective ships that may be employed in such unlawful operations, imposing the fines which for such cases are established by their laws.
VII.
It is further agreed, that for the better understanding and more efficient. protection of the Chinese subjects who reside in Peru, the Peruvian Government will appoint official Interpreters of the Chinese language in the Prefectures of the Departments of Peru where the great centres of Chinese Immigration exist.
VIII.
The merchant ships belonging to Peruvian citizens shall be permitted to frequent all the ports of China open to foreign trade, and to proceed to and fro at pleasure with their merchandise, enjoying the same rights and privileges as those of the most favored Nation.
In like manner, the merchant ships belonging to Chinese subjects, may visit all the ports of Peru open to foreign commerce and trade in them, enjoying the same rights and privileges which in Porn are granted to the citizens or subjects of the most favored Nation.
IX.
Peruvian citizens shall pay at the ports of China open to foreign trade on all the goods imported or exported by them, the daties enumerated in the tariff which is now in force for the regulation of foreign commerce; but they can, in no case, be called to pay higher or other duties than those required now or in future of the citizens or subjects of the most favored Nation.
No other or higher duties shall be imposed in the ports of Peru on all goods imported or exported by Chinese subjects, than those which are or may be imposed in Peru on the commerce of the most favored Nation.
X.
The ships of war of each country respectively shall be at liberty to visit all the ports within the territories of the other to which the ships of war of other nations are or may be permitted to come. They shall enjoy every facility, and meet no obstacle in purchasing provisions, coals, procuring water and making necessary repairs. Such ships shall not be liable to the payment of duties of any kind.
XI.
Any Peruvian vessels, being from extraordinary causes compelled to seek a place of refuge, shall be permitted to enter any Chinese port whatever, without being subject to the payment of tonnage dues or duties on the goods, if only landed for the purpose of making the necessary repairs of the vessel, and remaining under the supervision of the Superintendent of the Customs.
Should any such vessel be wrecked or stranded, the Chinese Anthorities shall immediately adopt measures for rescuing the crew, and for securing the vessel and cargo.
The crew thus saved, shall receive friendly treatment, and if necessary, shall be furnished with the means of conveyance to the nearest Consular station.
If any Chinese vessels he wrecked or compelled by stress of weather to seek a place of refuge in the coasts of Peru, the local maritime Anthorities shall render to them every assistance in their power; the goods and merchandise saved
