A STATE of emergency has prevailed at Victoria Gaol since an early hour this morning following a serious outbreak among the three hundred prisoners; who have refused to work, according to reports received, and have commenced a campaign of passive resistance in defiance, to day invited the prin- of prison authority.
First news of the trouble gave rise to considerable alarm by reason of the use of the term "mutiny" but it appears that the revolt consists merely of a general strike, arising from complaints about food.
