CINEMA NOTES.

WILLIAM HAINES WELL FED

IN "NAVY BLUES.“

A screen star may have to work hard but at least they feed him fried! chicken once in a while.

William Haines consumed six or. ders of fried chicken while ming the Y.W.CA, entortainment scene in Navy Blues," his first all-talking vehicle which will come shortly to the Queen's Theatre.

In the new picture, which Clarence Brown directed for Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer, Halnes had to cut his own plate of chicken and Anita Page's Loo. There is dialogue in between; There were many rehearsals, and puar Haines by the time the scene was finally completed, had eaten so mtel: fried chicken thut he could hardly walk.

The Y.M.C.A. sceno in which the entire crew of one of Uncle Sam's dreadnoughts are entertained while om shore leave, la only one of the many humourous scenes in the navy picture which depicts the Re of n gob na deck, in the fo'castle, and in a number of other musical spots. Miss Page as the heroine of Maines' exploits and Karl na his buddy, con- tribute a litle to the film's many

The American Girl.

If it hadn't been for s borrowed $100 h, Mary Eaton might not be playing the leading role in “Glorifying the American Girl" showing at the Central Theatre.

While Mary and her sister were pinying the leading child-roles in The Bluebird" in a stock company in Washington, D. C., their work attract- et much attention that they were given an offer to appear in the same soles in a big road company being assembled in New York. Their mother borrowed $100 to finance the children's trip to the metropolis. It was this journey which paved the way to Mary Eaton's debut as pre- mier danseuse of the Ziegfeld Fallies.

When Paramount decided to.5lm "Glorifying the American Girl" Misa Eaton was chosen as the logical ne- tres to play the leading role in this lavish musical spretnele, which produced maler the personal super- vision of Florenz Ziegfeld.

Besides Migs Eaton there are many other actors and actresses in the dazz- ling preshietion who have gained fame under the direction of Ziegfeld, In highly diverting revue_sequence of the picture, personal performancer by Eddie Cantur, Helen Morgan and Rudy Vallee are seen and heard.
