Big Scheme for West End of London.
AUTOMATIC PLAN.
A comprehensive scheme has been drawn up by the Lon- don Trolle Advisory Com- mittee and the Ministry of Transport which if adopted and developed, will result eventually in all the traffic of the West End of London being controlled mechanically.
The scheme has heen submitted to the Westminister City Council, the St. Marylebone Borough Council, and the Holborn Council, The municipaliting responsible for the West End aren. and is now Jander consideration..
So far the proposals concern only Oxford-street, the main high- way through the West End. "If passed, they will bring all traffle passing along that thoroughfare, nd converging on it between St. Giles-circus and Marble Arch, under the control of a system of utomatically worked signal lights.
One-Way Streets.
The system proposed is simple. Display of a green light would al- ow east and west traffle to flow or a few moments. Then a red ight would stop those streams, ind another green light would relense north and south traffic for
