Winter Warmth Plus The Formal Touch
Even in the best society, you may act as crazily or informally as you please, but it is fashionable to be dressed up while you cut up, so that even your rash acts will have that
necessary air of dignity

“HE “Dress-Up” idea has swept the country like a contagion. Have you succumbed yet to the return to "formal-ey" in clothes? You can go romantically 1830 or flirtatiously and gaily 1890 with perfect impunity. You can be quaint and differ- ent as you like, romantic as Empress Eugenie, devastating as Czarist Russian princesses, classic as Greek goddesses. But you just must have dash of formality about your things and about yourself this year, if you want to register.
I do not mean that you have to wake up formal, act formal while taking your orange juice, toast and coffee, walk in haught ily and never even see the poor office boy at your place of business. But think twice before you buy any nonchalant little sports "rag," as you so fondly called your best things last year. Think twice before investing monry in any inconsequential clothes.
If you have decided merely to don your winter coat without purchasing a heavy, warm, comfortable winter suit, do re- .comider. You'll need both, and badly. The winter suite this *year are irresistible, so warmly furred, so rich in fabric and color. Then you should have some kind of a formal title, afternoon suit.
You'll feel out of place at teas and bridge luncheons
this year in a strictly tailored suit and blouse,
Thirdly, for Sunday evenings or for afternoon receptions, you'll just yearn for one of the soft formal little frocks, if you ever see, them. Many of them have coats made to wear with them, heavy, warm winter coats of velvet interlined and perfectly capable of standing off freezing blasts.
For parties you should contemplate at least one very formal and stunning outfit. Everybody else is doing it.
If you mean to entertain this winter-and who doesn't, in a year when parties are so gorgeous-you should plan some kind of intimate hostess garb, pajamas perhaps, but more likely a host ess gown with trailing lines. Of shimmering loveliness.

I. QUITE ideal for the girl who knows she needs a stunning
winter suit the girl who knows she is going to own one is a dull green tweed, in the soft 1930-31 manner of fabric, trimmed with dyed ermine.
The dress of this suit is one of the new ones that takes match. ing green silk for the top of the frock and its sleeves, an admir able solution for our warmly heated house.
It has a modified bolero effect, where the silk ends and the tweed begins, with the balero scalloped. The waistline is defined **** with a braided girdle, the ends of which hang in front
The long coat that goes with this suit is fitted, has a umaṛt flate, and deep rever collar of dyed ermine. This collar ends at high waistline, where the cost slopes in. The hat to go with this outfit is a new culion brim, in green, from Marie Alphonsine.
II. HAVE you seen the new black lame that is speckled in gold? It is gorgeous. An afternoon suit, made of this material, one of the most stunning I've seen. Reaching the skirt. the little jacket flares and is cut much longer in the back than in the front, which slopes up. There is a blouse of red lame, also dotted in gold, a most spirited addition to an already chic suit. The blouse ties its neckline in soft bow, with ends that hang. Worn with u Patou black feh hat, this is a knockout.

III. YOU will look like the regal hostest, whether you feel like her or not. if you adopt a sumptuous hostess gown for your costume when you greet your guests.
These are utterly ravishing this year. Especially one in to and salmon figured velvet, with a deep vest of real lace, ecru Alencon.
The gown itself has unusual lines, a graceful, trailing skirt and sleeves that exactly carry out the idea of the 'gown itself. They flare from elbow line into very wide cuffs.
IV. WHEN you get an invitation to somebody or other".
evening party, what are you going to wear?
How about a ducky little black_transparent velvet, with crisp organdie touches 1. you're fresh, young and burdened with beauty, it will be the perfect costume.
The frock I have in mind is a transparent velvet, made with a fitted body fine, flaring skirt and sleeves made in one with the bodice, ending above the elbow. Below that the cutest of new pagoda sleeves appear, in frilly white organdy, the top flounce being the widest, contrary to the usual run of flounces.
There is an original fichu collar, with one end making à jabot, ahs of the white organdic, If you have pearli, prepare to wear them with this dress, for they are needed to make the perfect ensemble of jewels and gown. A little black beret of velvet is a wise hat choice and black suede pumps with conservative design.
V. DECOLLETAGE, lhouette and fabric are the three important things to note when selecting that alluring evening gown that you intend as a prop to help establish you in society. If you can have a gown that has authenticity and yet is ex- tremely your own gown and no one else's, you are lucky.
A very original gown is a stiff black faille, designed to give the new bell-shaped silhouette. This rounds out over the body's contours, shapes in, and then fares in exaggerated line,
This gown has the popular narrow shoulder stops and is orna- mented by a wide band of brilliant stones, in many colors, that outlines the decolletage. The back of this decolletage is cut to the waist, folded back in revers, outlined with jeweled banding.
