The imposition of a protective tariff to aid Chinese industries was one of the most interest- of the ing recommendations National Industrial and Com-: mercial Conference, which con- cluded at Nanking on Saturday.
The proposal called for full co- operation between various in. dustrial and commercial enterprises | and pointed out that the three: most effective meats of promoting home industries are: (1) enforce- ment of a protective tariff, (2) in- troduction of methods of scientific management and (3) large scala production and distribution. By the amalgamation of various com panica engaged in the same kind of business, not only can a great amount of management expenses be saved by doing away with trade rivalry and competition, butj experts as well as means of pro-i duction may be concentrated and a concerted effort against foreign competition made possible.
Rationalisation.
The proposal which was adopted, provides for the following mea-
sures:
A. With Regard to Production:] 1.-Amalgamation of various factories having small capital.
2.-Co-operation in the purchase of raw materials and machinery for factories situate at different places
3.-Amalgamation of new fac-j torics with old ones.
B. With Regard to Distribution and. Marketing:
1. Standardization of products. 2.-Co-operation in the trans- portation and storage of goods.
3.-Standardization of trade marks and uniformity of prices.
A proposal calling for the pro- hibition of the export of Iron ores and waste iron was adopted.
