A TRAVESTY OF CRICKET.

LANCASHIRE'S CONDUCT AT

THE OVAL.

By P. F. Warner.

The cricket season of 1930 came to ah end with the defeat of Lan- cashire, the champion county, by, the Rest by ten wickets.

It was what may be called in schoolboys' slang "a rotten match," for Lan- cashire's whole demeanour towards it was one of complete indifference; and I hope that the committee of the county club will cause some in- quiry to be made as to why their eleven should have taken up this attitude.

the

Champion County v. The Rest used to be a game in which county tried its utmost to show that they were worthy of the, title,! and it is not fair to the public, and most ungenerous towards the chari- ties for which the match was play- ed, for any side to be so idle and slack as Lancashire were on this occasion. Lancashire possess great cricketing traditions, but in. this game they forgot those traditions and made a travesty of what is now a fixture of some antiquity.

Investigation Needed.

Are some teams nowadays only interested where points are at stake? In any case it is certain that the majority of people were disgusted at the atmosphere which Lancashire gave to this match, and if professional cricketers are not, to give of their best then I cannot) see why they should receive the liberal remuneration which is theirs. in this fixture. If ever they are champions again Lancashire nead ant trouble to come down from the North unless the spirit in which they played this match has de-) parted.

That there is something wrong with the organisation of our cricket, I am convinced, and I trust that during the winter the question of

the championship and of our fix- ture liat will be thoroughly discuss- ed. This last game sends one into; winter quarters in a state of de- pression,

Kodak Film

SPARKLING

PICTURES ON DULL DAYS

be

You will see printed on any Kodak Film carton the word "Speed" This means that the flm is fast and will make the most of the light. The light may be poor because the day is a dull, one; or it may a bright day, and yet the light admitted inside the camera is diminished because you have shortened the exposure in order to take a moving object. Either way, the Kodak film, being "speedy," will make a plucky negative.

But be warned! Film which is "speedy." but has no "latitude," is dangerous. If you give it ever so little over-exposure it turns nasty and the negative is flat, dull and unprintable. Kodak Film is "speedy," but it has that indulgent "latitude" which allows you to over expose it and still get sparkling negatives.
