TEN MILLIONS. DEMANDED.
RANSOM FOR FOURTEEN MISSIONARIES.
Peking, Oct. 22.
It is now learned that the Com- munist bandits at Kianfu have made the biggest haul of foreigners since the famous Lin- cheng outrage.
The Bishop and a priest who arrived in Kiuklang, via Chang- sha, were released in order that they might bring a demand for ransom in the sum of $10,000,000 for the release of the four foreign priests, five foreign and Chinese nuns.

NOT ILL-TREATED BUT HAD LITTLE TO EAT.
Peking, Oct. 22. Young Mr. Christopher Jowett, the 18-year-old nephew of the Rt. Hon. F. W. Jowett, who had been in the hands of the Soviet authori- ties at Chita since September 25 but crossed the frontier. and reached Harbin safely the other day, arrived here this morning
In an interview with Reuter's correspondent he emphasised that no actual ill-treat- he suffered fivement, only discomforts due to the present food shortage and other inconveniences of present day Russia.

The names of four of the captive nuns are Sister Lamichant, Sister Merle, Sister Ramos and Sister Itognomi.
A feature of the case was the long delay before his release.
When he was arrested owing to having lost his passport, he was taken under an armed guard back to Chita. The police stated that he would be released in five days, yet it was twenty-four days before he left Chita.
The first night at Chita, he was put into a bare room with six or seven troopers. Afterwards he was placed in a rented room in a small state-owned house, which was bare and not free from ver- had food tickets, but min. After a cold day, the Lord Heavenly Father gave us a lovely day with sunshine so that the girls enjoyed themselves very much, and had
a great time. Even though they cannot see all the beauty round them they do feel it in their hearts. It is very kind of our friends and benefactors to regard it a blessing and to help and please the blind, surely they will get their reward from our God and Father.
