Witness saw him in the cell fifteen minutes later, and he appeared to be quite normal though he looked sick, which witness put down to his being an opium smoker. About 12.30 p.m. witness was call- ed by a constable who informed im that the prisoner had hanged himself. He went to the cell and saw the prisoner who appeared to be quite dead. His body was warm, and artificial respiration was tried. The man was sent to the hospital about twenty minutes later, but Dr. Uttley pronounced life extinct.
Dr. Utiley said that death was due to strangulation. The post mortem revealed that two ribs had been broken. This was due either to the hanging or to the artificial
