The romping, stomping type of schoolgirl is decidedly out of place this fall, for styles on the campus will be conspicuously dignified

OOK like a lady though collegiate." is

a bit of good advice for all of you girlı who are figuring with pencil and paper "just what to take to college with you this fall.

The days of college uniformity are over. If you can look just a little different from the rest, like a young college girl and yet very feminine, then you have success right there in your ward- robe trunk!

The best way to plan the perfect college outfit is to set down what you will be doing and think out what you will need to wear when doing it.

That means a nifty traveling outfit, for first impressions are lasting ones, and on the train or at the depot you will be sure to see girls, and men, too, if you are a co-ed, whom you want to impress.

THEN, you will want several practical, though attrac- tive, school frocks. The utilitarian runabout type is a safe bet. You can take your pick in the one-piece, the two-piece and the jumper, or even the tunic type of frock this year. That gives you plenty of leeway so you can be yourself.

You will need something to wear for afternoon affairs, For of course there will be faculty teas, sorority and fra- ternity receptions, and who knows but you may start right out being invited to those charming affairs that are in style again, the tea dances?

-

For all of your things, I suggest a certain marked and quiet simplicity. Not too many frills. Not too much com- plicated color. Clothes that go in for line and fine mate- rials, rather than the too-gaudy type.

T:

RAYONS this autuma answer the school and college girl's call. There are such lovely combinations of rayons and wools and such elegant combinations of rayons and silks. Even the rayon and cottons are exceptionally fine and have a soft beauty that youth loves.

Since the new styles stress variety of materials quite as much as silhouette, it is important to note how many textiles owe their distinction to the combination of rayon. Crinkly crepes, twill weaves, textiles with a fine-ribbed design and all those that are frosted and Becked. have a way of achiev ing their character by using rayon.

Therefore the more modern and up-to-date of the rayon mixtures, such as the. Bianchini flamingo; the sturdy Can- ton crepes, the woven designed Jacquarde, the dotted and flecked woolen crepes, are of primary importance, now and quite ideal for college.

T FOR a start towards your wardrobe of regular day. time frocks the kind you will wear to classes, a most serviceable type is one of the new black wools, flecked with white rayon, made without any collars and cuffs which must be washed eternally.

This little runabout frock has its own revers, cuffs buf- tos trimmed, and a series of horizontal tucks which are ex- ceptionally decorative and unusual. dibay

To get that color note that you college girls ask, a little. bit of red, green, black and white ribbon is used in an unusual manner, to provide the desirable dan

II. Of course you want a sports outfit or two. For the early football games, before you get out the fur coat or even for wear under the fur coat during November. nothing is more sat- isfactory than a colorful rayon boucle. This knitted weave keeps its shape and yet does not cling to the figure as some pure wools do.

Get one that comes in subdued striped pat- lern, perhaps one in rase, rust and yellow. These softened tones are beautiful together this fall.

A one-piece frock, with either long or short sleeves, ai you wish, and then either a cardigan or one of the new windbreaks made in knitted material, and you are fixed, for golf, hiking, or watching sports events.

This one has a rust-colored cardigan that belts, and the hat with a little feather brush in the yellow and rose is made of rust-colored fabric, fiecked in yellow..

III. ANOTHER excellent frock for your purpose is a

navy blue spiral crepe, in rayon and wool mixture, made with white silk pique for pipings, and big white but tons to accent the pipings. The pipings merely button onto the frock and are easily removed.

This frock is one of the new belted tunic ones, a style very smart on sleader girls, though you who may be a bit rounder must watch out for it.

This frock is practical and very chic, and when worn with a navy blue chenille hat, is exceedingly demure,

IV. IF you like dainty clothes, you will be drawn to a petal frock made of black spiral crepe with a fleck in triangular pattern done in red rayon

This little frock has a gored skirt which flares gracefully, and the overblouse is made in petal finish, and so is a shoulder cape which crosses the back of the bodice. There is a little vestee done by hand, in white crepe de chine, which is also petalled in form. VAL

V SINCE brown is so chic this fall, you may have the smartest of costumes and arrive feeling like a million dollars if you choose a beige and brown traveling suit of knitted rayon boucle, made with a beige tuck-in blouse, trimmed with a striped yoke and banding of the brown. Boucle is ideal for the type of figure you college girls have svelte, supple, slender. Moreover, it doesn't wrinkle: looks smart always, and stands up even in rain. With this costume, a beige felt bicorn hat, with a little front yoke effect of brown chenille, is ideal.

VI. YOUR dress-up costume is always important. This Autumn the transparent velvet, the kind you merely hang up in your bathroom and let the steam press for you, is likely to be the favorite outfit.

A copper-colored velvet suit, with cape sleeves and a jacket that buttons with decorative buttons over a rich tunic, blouse, is lovely for you, especially if you have any tone of brown in your own makeup it is equally as lovely a suit if done in green or blue.

This suit has a gorgeous turblouse, of eggshell rayon satin, hand-embroidered in blue, rose and brown Take the jacket off and you have of me outfit for formal hom.
