GASSED AFTER ACQUITTAL. ·
CAPTAIN'S INJURY IN
CHILDHOOD.
Sir Bernard Spilsbury, the fa- mous pathologist, was a witness at the inquest on Capt. Edward Morton Durrant, who was found gassed at his lodgings in Redhill- street, N. W.
Five months ago Durrant, who was 42, was found unconscious in a Highgate flat, and at his side was the body of Mrs. Julis Bards- ley, with whom he had been liv ing. Both had been gassed, but Captain Durrant recovered and was charged with the murder of Mrs. Bardsley. Durrant said he had no desire to kill himself, and did not know that Mrs. Bardsley intended suicide. The jury found him not guilty, and he was dis charged.
A brother, the Rev. J. F. Dur rant, of Chelmondiston Rectory near Ipswich, told the coroner at the inquest that the captain's last occupation was selling carpet- sweepers on commission.

GENEVA DISASTER.
Two Swiss holiday accidents have resulted in the deaths of two women and three men, and serious injuries to two other men.

"Fast Company" was on view yesterday and will doubtless be for some days to come at the Central Theatre.
"Fast Company" has to do with a "bush league" ball player. Jack Oakis, who plays baseball so well that he is signel by the Yankees. He leaves his little old, home town ánd la plunged into the fast" com- pany of city-bred girls and big the league players. He becomes tower of strength on the Yankees and they win the pennant. His girl turns his down, and a gang of smart gamblers make him their un-" witting dupe. All seems dark when a very happy twist of fate saves the days for the boastful but lovable hero.
