muigage has been preferred, and similar cases in the future must be contemplated.
The taking of legal mortgages, with the advantages incidental thereto, has rendered necessary the giving of powers of attorney by former Governors, and the execu- tion of deeds and other instruments out of the Colony, with consequen- tial correspondence and delays, The inconvenience of such practice, and the need for legislation on the lines of this Ordinance have become abundantly clear.
It is considered that the Colonial Treasurer should hold and deal with securities and other property taken for and on account of the Hong- kong Government.
The Ordinance is modelled, in part, on the Treasury Solicitor Act, 1876, 39 & 40 Vict. c. 18, and the Secretary for Chinese, Affairs In- corporation Ordinance, 1928, Ordin-| ance Ordinance No. 3 of 1928.,
Since last year's Exhibition, six big new factories for the mass production wireless sets have aprung up, and at Olympia two hundred firms, all prosperous, ure exhibiting products ranging from the smallest terminal to the big
eat valve in the world, embodying. the last word in the selence of wireless.

month.

When Mr. Fairbanks nodded the burglar replied: "We hate to do this to you, but we need money."
Asked if Miss Mary Pickford, his wife, was in the house, the fi'm st replied. "She is asleep, don't wake her. She would be scared to death."
"O.K. How much dough have you got?" the burglar said.
Mr. Fairbanks replied he had about £20 upstairs, and the burg. lar said he would be contended with this, provided the star "didn't start anything."

The new Bill removes that diffi-
of section 3 (2) of the Trustees Ordinance, 1901, which makes simi- lar provision in the case of suc- cessive holders of the office of the Official Trustee.
The draft is also published of an Ordinance to amend the Life Insur ance Companies Ordinance, 1907.
In explanation, it is stated that! Section 3 of the Life Insurance Companies Ordinance, 1907, pro- vides for the deposit of securities with the Registrar of Companies: but does not provide for the con- tinuity of that office so as effectual- iy to pass the legal estate to suc- cessive holders of the office.
The new Bill removes that diff- eulty by an amendment on the lines of section 3 (2) of the Trustees Ordinance, 1991, which makes simi- lar provision in the case of succes- sive holders of the office of Official, Trustee.
