TRAGEDY.
NEW POINT REVEALED IN EVIDENCE.
MYSTERIOUS HEAD.
It was revealed, at the resumed inquiry into the tragedy at the Lok Ma Chau Police Station on July 21, that Dalip Singh had been re- transferred to the New Terri- tories, after having already served one year there, as a punishment.
When the Court opened Gurdit Singh, Indian interpreter at the Tal- po Police Station, was called." He stated that at 5.45 pm. on July 21, whilst he was having his meal in the mess room he heard the Chin- ese interpreter and the Station guard shouting to him. They were saying "“Fai ti, munchi, tele- phone." Witness went to the tele- phone, but nobody replied. Know- ing that the message had come from Lok Ma Chau, communication was restored after ringing for two minutes and witness spoke to the Indian Sergeant who informed him of the occurrence at the Sta- tion.
Continuing, witness said that he telephoned to the Assistant Superin- tendent of Police and the Divisional Inspector, North, for assistance. A lorry was commandeered at Tai- po and
two Indians, with bullet proof vests, were sent to Lok Ma Chau.
Replying to Mr. King witness said that he remembered Dalip Singh going to Taipo to see Mr. W. la Bart Sparrow, A.S.P., some- time in June when he had been about a month at Lok Ma Chau.
He told the Superintendent that he had already been in the New Ter- ritories for one year and asked why he had been sent there again.
Transfer A Punishment.
Mr. King: What reply did Mr. Sparrow give?-He said that Mr. W. R. Scott (Deputy Superinten- dent of Police) sent him to the New Territories as a punishment. Did he make any complaint that he

He alleged it was due to A.S.P. Mchindar Singh. Did Mr. Sparrow explain to him that it was not A.S.P. Mohindar Singh's order but Mr. Scott's order?--Yes,
Then after Mr. Sparrow had ex- plained that to him did he say any- thing more or not? He insisted that it was A.S.P. Mohindar Singh. He said, I know that."

The Chinese interpreter, who was on duty as telephone clerk from 8 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. stated that he received no message whatever from Lok Ma' Chau during that time. He was in the telephone room the whole time from 5 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. The telephone clerk who had been relieved by the last witness, for the two and a half hours, whlist he was away for his meals, stated that he took over again at 5.30 p.m. Fifteen minutes later he received A message from Lok Ma Chau; but being an Indian's voice he could not make out what was being said, except that he made out the words "la si yan" (man killed.) Witness then sent for the Indian interpre ter, who came in three minutes later. After two minutes they were able to get on to Lok Ma Chau again.
