some launches had already depart ed for home, there were two still there and thero came to the rescue of the stranded party.
The two launches reached Temple Bay about 6.30 in the evening and the Y.M.C.A. party was taken on board. Two members, who were busy inspecting the Chinese tomba on the island, were not aware ef the arrival of the launches and con- sequently missed the sampan con- veying the party to the launches. Undeterred they plunged into the water and began, swimming to the launches. Half way out they en- counted a stiff current and had to be taken on board a sampan. The party reached home the worse for their experience. The abandoned launch was eventual- ly got off the rocks when the tide came in late at night.
