BUILDS GAS-ELECTRIC CAR.
Albert Melentinė, 20-year-old mechanic of Maidson, Wis.,, has built a gas-electric automobile, after two years of work. which he says goes from 30 to 40 miles, on a gallon, of gasoline. Power is obtained from a generator underneath the car driven by a gasoline engine, that of an ordinary auto.. 'The car needs no gearshift, as both power and speed ara controlled by the throttle. Melentine and his car are shown here,

British Industry Grows.
OFFICIAL REPORTS.
In the "Final Report on Indus- try and Trade," published in Great Britain last year by the Board of Trade, at the instigation of the Rt. Hon. J. Ramsay Mac- Donald, Prime Minister, it is emphatically laid down that the only real solution of the industrial depression problem is increased export trade. That there is: scope for a greater volume of overseas trade for British auto- mobiles is evidenced by the fact that British South Africa is this year buying cars and chassis to the value of roughly £5,000,000, or about half as much as Great Britain exports to the whole world. Of this £5,000,000, only some £400,000 represents British cars. The realisation of this fact has prompted Singer and Co. of Coventry, whose popular priced cars are fanted throughout the. world, to make a bold bid for Empire trade, particularly throughout the whole of South Africa. To this end steps ate being taken to appoint distribu- tors in all areas where the com- pany is not already represented.
