door. For it brings with it frocks of enchantment that have the power, in their very flattering loveliness,

to make of you what you will.

What if you have to work for a living? It is smart to work, but certainly not smart to look as if you did. Apply your efficiency to assembling what I would call a leisure. class wardrobe. You will find. I dare say, that once you look extravagantly lovely, your very job will go beller.

Certainly you will have a better time doing it. For you, know how much more you enjoy yourself when the glances of those about you are proof you are looking like a million.

CERTAIN it is, too, on the job and off it, you will have

many more invitations hither and you if you maints right through the torrid days that pleasing appearance of the aloof lady who chooses her clothes with such care and good taste that she has just the right cool-looking costume for each day and each event.

This is the time of year to go in for sheer grace. Of gandies, chiffons, fine crepes, delicate linens, georgettes and other materials advance the cause of cool charm.

And for evenings, do concentrate on exquisite things that trail, away and float în rhythm with the wooing music of the smart roof you happen to be dancing on, or out in the garden you are lucky enough to know folks who have homes and gardens.

ABOVE all, forget for the time being that clothes can look

heavy and hot. Looking cool is being cool-and attrac tive when the thermometer zooms. Stick to white or colors that have the power to create the impression that there is a little zephyr around the corner which will blow its gentle breeze on you any moment! Greens, cool aqua blues soft pleasing pinks, and above all that unbeatable combination of white with traceries of black!

For your wardrobe of enchantment, I will suggest a few costumes that should certainly be among those present in your wardrobe.

I. BESIDES these costumes for going places and seeing things, you should count on lounging some this summer, Life should be taken easy in hot weather. To lounge right you should lounge smartly. That means pajamas.

And in this instance. I suggest a Chanel outh!, or white linen with flounced trousers and a tuck-in sleeveless blouse,, with red buttons, and a vivid red, white and blue hand- blocked heavy linen long coat. You will look gay, smart and cool, all at the same time, in this.

.

II. If you are invited to a summer wedding, to a party or to an outdoor matinee, do go into organdie! It is

so youthful and fresh-looking. It is with us again this sea son for the first time in years, and deserves recognition. And above all, it suggests a party.

A delicate mint green organdie frock sponsors a new sil houette in its slender loveliness. It is the kind of dainty sil- houre that you will find tremendously flattering, if you are as thin as you should be. And if you aren't, let me tell you right now that the reason the new clothes do not make much mention of hips, but concentrate on waistlines, is because they pre-suppose none of you have them. Hips, my dears! They are positively out of date! Curves, yes. They are altractive and quite the style,

This dainty pale green dress has circular godets let into a three-tiered skirt to give it pertness and young charra, The bodice fits snugly, with a narrow belt around the waistline. Over the shoulders, the little yoke Bares out into the perkiest of little epaulettes. White corals look enchanting with this frock and have the same type of insouciant beauty as the frock itself. The hot is fine crin, in the exact shade of the frock, with a narrow banding of velvet ribbon that ties in a bow in the back,

III. LOOK cool on your job, whether it keeps you hot and bothered or not. Ideal for blistering days in midsummer is a little figured crepe de chine, dainty black leaves on a white background. It is made for utility as well. as beauty. It has fitted lines, with a deep flounce of pleats, and a deep bertha of pleated silk takes away the nude feel ing that you might feel with no sleeves at all.

But on a nice pair of white gloves, or black for that mat ter, a lacy black mesh turban and you are ready for the hot lest day's onslaught. The turban, incidentally, is something brand-new in chapeaux.

If you are among those who do not work, this is recom mended highly to you by me as just the thing to slip on for that important luncheon. You will look so trim in it, 10 youthful and first, last and most important, so cool!

IV. WHEN you dance with the One and Only at the

smart roof garden this summer, or in the casino of some fashionable resort, do not stint yourself on your cos lume. You will need a diaphanous chiffon that bestows upon you some of the magic charm of its fabric, color and sheer- neas. And you will need one of the new little short jackets for a wrap, preferably one in taffets, which is newer than velvet.

Just such a costume is a beauteous black and white chiffon

gown, with fluttering, even length to its skirt, a simple, dis- Linguished neckline and a flattering wide girdle waistline treatment.

There is new chic in this type of costume. It has that in effable lady-look you should always have with you. Yet it is ideal for dancing. cool as it is, and you can enjoy your- self to the utmost, assured that at the end of the evening. your chiffon gown will look just as cool and aloof from the ordinary hock as it did when you donned it.

it

To top it, why not have a black taffeta short cost? For a change, have your coat with a wide belt or the bottom of The Aaring jacket has its extreme popularity. This jacket is different. It has wide short sleeves, no collar in front, and a draped back with big bow across the shoulders.

"

V WHEN you are invited to the races, to a tennis or golf meet or to a country club morning bridge panty with lunch to follow, take a look at the pink linen, it from Chanel, with matching shantung hat. The suit flaunts Chanel's jagged saw-tooth scallop that is very lacy in its effect and very dressy.

The jacket, skirt and the fine white linen blouse that com pletes the pink suit all have this edging. The hat is plaio, with a stiched brim.

It is a suit that is essentially feminins and flattering, one in which beauty is the main ingredient, chic the uimulant. Once you have this suit in your wardrobe, you can think of many, many occasions on which to sport it
