The Chairman also stated that

kiti pod Sinkers on "ment had been purchased in order to keep up the high quality of food and service of the restaurant, and said that because of the popularity of the restaurant and the increased turn-over of late months, the Direo tors were satisfied with the advance made.

After the Secretary had read the notice convening the meeting, the Chairman said:

Chairman's Speech. Gentlemen,-The report and a0- counts having been in your hands for the prescribed period, I will, with your permission, take them as read. The Auditore Report is as follows: "We report that we have Axamined the account of Jane, Crayford, Ltd., with the books and vouchers of the company for the year ended 28th February, 1830, and have obtained all the information and explanations we have required. our opinion the abore balance sheet is properly drawn up so as to exhibit a true and correct view of the state of the company's affairs According to the best of our formation and the explanations given to us and as shown by the banks of the company."

In dealing with the accounts, you will notice that the nett result of

working shows a profit of $42.023.45 us compared with $23, 102.53 for the previous year, and a loss of $11,097.74 for the year pre- ceding the last.

You will als notice an item at the debit of profit and loss ac- count under the heading of "Ex- change" this sum, viz: 81,089.75, represents the adjustment of starling accounts current between our office here and our London Agents.

Repairs and renewals show a de crease as compared with last year. This is accounted for, to 2 cou siderable extent, by the fact that sundry repairs and renewals bave been debited this year to working account.

Bad and Doubtful Debts.

We have also taken the Peak Garage, and I am pleased to inform you that our clients are well pleased with the service they receive.

The amount of business done by the Kiosk at Repulse Bay has en- couraged your Directors to further extend and develop the surrounding land. The Government has granted UR a licence for the sale of alcoholic liquors to be consumed with meals on the premises.

Your management has been at considerable pains to keep up the high quality of food and service generally of your company's re xtaurant, and in this connexion new kitchen equipment was purchased during the year. From the papa- larity which this restaurant enjoye ́t would appear that these improve. ments of our service are appreciat cd.

The same policy has been adopted with regard to your company's bakery. Your Directors are

satis fed with the advance this deport- ment is making, judging by the in creased turnover of late months.

Purchase of Building.

Your Directors have been in negotiation for some months past for the purchase from the Hongkong Realty and Trust Co., Ltd., of the building known as Exchange Build- ing, in which the main section of your.company's business is situated, and I am now in a position to in form you that the Board of Direc- tore of the Hongkong Realty and Trust Co. Ltd., have agreed, sub- ect to the approval of their share- holders, to sell the property to this company.

General conditions in Hongkong and China during the financial year under review, coupled with the de elining dollar, have been such as to cause the management and your Directors considerable thought and anxiety, and when these conditions are taken into consideration, I think you will agree with me that the working of the company is not entirely unsatisfactory, thanks to e loyal co-operation of the management and the staff as a whole.

I informed you last year that the reserve for bad and doubtful ders,

Subsequent to the printing of the namely 83,000, which was then

redort and balance sheet which are created, was considered by your Directors to be ample, and you will before you, Mr. L. N. Murphy, who I regret to say jo-sick and cannot notice that the amount to be

thereto, and I am sure you will

Directors in this regard It is matter for congratulation that the writing-off and reserve necessary are so small, considering the magnitude sal nature of the company's hasiness.

It is regretted that our invest- ments have not given us any return this year. This, however, should not be taken as meaning that these investments have depreciated. would assure you, gentlemen, that our investments are fully worth the amunt at which they stand in the hooks of the company.

Depreciation Decision. Turning to the balance sheet. Apart from the item "Investment," which has already been referred to, the only explanation necessary 18 in reward to "Depreciation," and in explaining these figures I think it will be sufficient if I point out that Your Directors have decided this year to depreciate $21,564.01 2.8 against 88,392.37 for last year, and I feel sure that this conservative policy will be endorsed by you with out hesitation.

There is one item of depreciation which I should like to explain, and that is "Garage Tools and Equip

and have joined the Directorate of the Company. According to your company's Articles of Association, these appointments do not require confirmation at this meeting.

I now beg to propose that the report and accounts for the year ending th February, 1930, AS cresented, be adopted, and I shall be glad if some shareholder will second this proposal.

When this has been done I shall be glad to answer to the best of my ability any questions shareholders my wish to ask.
