It is quite as important for you to give material consideration to fabrics infyour summer costumes as it is to see that they are cut on correct lines

Yo
summer will all fatter you great. ly if you are the wise little lady you should
be.
If you hold down
a job, you know deep
down in your heart that bewitching cos tumes go a long way toward lifting you into that position higher up. If you're a schoolgirl still, I will tell you. in case you do not know it, that no professor has ever proved conclusively that smart frocks do not have a direct bearing on high gradesi
If you're a young married woman, you can't start too soon being so utterly ravishing that that husband of yours will nearly die of pride.
This business of charm clothes, you must look at in a material way. I mean that the fabrics that go into your clothes are quite as important as the way they are cut, their color and so on.
IN making this modern drive for beauty and gorgeous femininity this summer. Paris helps you a whole lot. For there are all kinds of ravishing new types of goods on the market from which adorable little things are made. New semi-sheer crepes are the latest things you can get. These include all the georgettes. Eliz- abeth and Roma crepes. Moravia and others which use both a twisted and a straight rib to make a semi-sheer loveliness.
By all means have a suit, coat or frock or two of these pretty fabrics. They wear like iron, for in quite a feminine manner they are not nearly to fragile as they look.
Then you should give the new ribbed silks the once over, and I shall be surprised if you do not go home with one billed to you. If you have a suit, you should have at least one ribbed silk blouse. And if you have a new spring coat, you just must have a ribbed silk frock, perhaps with hat made out of the same fabric.
"
LAST but not least, you need a printed frock. But since the whole world, including your- self, knows this. I won't linger on the subject. Do you know your type before you pick these flattering frocks for daytime wear? If you are a blond, certain types of smooth mate- rials heighten your sveltriess, while others de- tract from it. If you are brunet and happen to be a little one at that, the dull finish, soft crepe things will be just lovely cn you, espe cially if they happen to have capes.
I have selected what I call charm clothes for all day long, and I'm sure you will find some of them just the things you need to finish out your wardrobe.
I. FOR dinner, and especially if you get an invitation for a week-end and want just the right frock, I have selected a black lace and black chiffon, made with shirred panels that fall to one side and show lace pantalets, no less. It would be exceedingly daring if it weren't so utterly feminine and modest. And the cape collar heightens the effect of demure
ness.
II. NOW for the little afternoon frock which you may want to wear to teas, to a friend's informal wedding, to a matinee or on Saturday afternoon when you are lunching with a friend and are not sure just where you will go afterwards. This is the time to pick a printed chiffon.
I show you one in a colorful design, roses. daisies and violets. in their natural color, against dark blue. It is made with a long skirt- line, flowing sleeves, a fichu neck, and "a tai- lored belt.
III. SINCE June and its hot days are just around the corner, now is the time for you to contemplate one of those charming little standbys that will make you look cool.
There are new figured georgettes on the market this year, and I show you a frock made of an almost invisible brown and white checked georgelle. It is made with a casual little lace collar that slips through a little loop. seemingly knotting itself. There are box pleats half- way to the knees and then they flare. A slen- der little tailored belt marks the normal waist- line and there are lace cuffs like the collar. You would get a tremendous amount of wear out of this frock.
IV. IF you wear black so well that you yourself admit it is good an you, you will be captivated by this daytime, suit of black crepena trimmed with plaid silk and wool mix-
ture,
Here again you have the newest little trick there is, the sleeveless jacket. This time the frock is tailored to perfection with the ever- becoming V neckline and is marked by a nat- ural waistline, where a belt of the plaid mate- rial is placed. The skirt is fitted below the hips and from there side gores flare to fullness.
The little sleeveless jacket has wide revers of the plaid material which go around to make a flat collar. finish in the back. It does not fasten, but swing with a certain nonchalance quite entrancing in as jaunty a suit as this. By all means have black gloves with it. They are se very chic this spring. And they are espe cially good on a young girl.
You could have either a felt hat, or a brimmed plaid straw with the suit, but the 'flar- ing. rather intricately cut felt, is very good.
V. FOR the formal proms that come the last of the school year, and for the formal

dances given for new June, brides, you will need an evening gown of real dignity and beauty. Don't be afraid to be a little digni- fied. But do it charmingly!
An opaline rose satin, in the soft lustrous Gish, is just beautiful in its sveltness, its color and cut. It has a cut-out decolletage at the front and a looped strapped decolletage at the back which develops into a looped panel that, is caught at the waist and then makes the tiniest of trains. By à circular cut your skirt has plenty of fullness, yet that long, tight silhouette is retained enough to show that you really are slender as a sylph. The waistline is marked. by the skirt's cut, which simulates a girdle.
CLOTHES have been practical fer a long
time, sacrificing the ornamental to the use ful. This year the pendulum is swinging the other way. While business and sports clothes still retain the lines that make for freedom, gowns and hats and slippers for formal and informal pleasure wear are cultivating all the intrigue which made the ladies of yesterday 10 successful,
New styles are not cumber some. They are delightfully charming and free, but they are decorative instead of severe.
They are making use of the knowledge which understands the allure of an uneven hemline, a ftare, or an added collar.
