Dancing Beauty.
GIRLS MUST BE PERFECTLY
GROOMED.
The girl who dances must be per- fectly groomed for the brillance of the electric lighting beneath which she dances shows up every tiny de- Lect.
re-
Her hair, more than anything else, must be in perfect order. This is only achieved by the gular brushing advised by all the experts, and by scrupulous atten- tion to shampooing. It is useless to shampoo often if it is not done thoroughly. Where the lather is not properly removed the hair will look lifeless and grensy within a day or so, so take care always to add a little ammonia or lemon juice to the rinsing water, so that the soap globules will be neutralised.
A too frequent application of the frons has a tendency to make the hair brittle and without gloss. If
a permanent wave cannot be acquir- led it is better to use curling pins and a setting lotion, or else rely upon the real beauty of hair which is thick
and burnished even if straight.
Complexion Trouble.
Too frequent powdering is the cause of a great deal of complexion trouble. To remedy the enlarged pores the face should be well wash- ed every night before retiring, and after thorough cleansing a good astringent lotion should be appli- ed. Cucumber and lemon lotions are useful, and best of all is a piece of ice if it can be obtained. It should be folded in a piece of mus lin and rubbed gently all over the fare. Regular ice treatment will restore the fine texture of almost any skin which has been ruined by careless powdering.
Liquid powder is far better to use
in the dance room. It is more last- ing and less harmful in its effects. Moreover, it does not rub off and attach itself to the partner's cloth- ing so readily as the other kind. Tired and painful feet detract considerably from the dancing girl's appearance. They cause fretful lines to appear about the eyes and mcuth and also prevent graceful movement. It is best to have a foot bath before dressing for the dance. To the bath may be added a tablespoonful of carbonate of boda and a similar quantity of bura- cic crystals. A good medicated powder should then be shaken into the stocking feet. If a home-made powder is preferred it can be made. up of equal quantities of powdered orris root, boracic powder, and carbonate of soda.
The hands can be kept in order by rubbing in a good cold cream
